Music With Some Munchkins

Back on the first week of summer break, my mom and I did a 3 day, music day camp for kids. We did it as a fundraiser for my plane ticket to Trinity, when we started we thought "Okay, so we will have maybe 4 or 5 kids  that want to come." However, before we knew it we had 19 kids signed up! We quickly arranged to host it at our church seeing as it was now too large to have at our home.
Mom was a saint at planning the curriculum, getting instruments ready and making themes for everyday. I wasn't much help in the prep stages, which I feel bad about. It was cool to see everything come together though and the kids loved it.
We had drum circles, snacks, stories, games, crafts, and dances. Because we had 19 kids and only mom and I running it, I worked on setting up all the stations and taking pictures, while mom taught the classes. Each day had it's own theme, Tuesday was Hawaiian day, Wednesday was Mexican day, and Thursday was Cowboy day. (That day was my favorite! )
It was really amazing to work with my mom on the camp and it made me feel super special when I watched her work so hard on something and use her break to help me, but that's just my parents for you, always putting others needs before their own. This experience just made me realize again just how much Mom and Dad do for me and just how lucky my brother and I are to have parents who love us so much!

What I am Learning as a Student Rep

Student Representative? What's that? It is a great  role that one girl and one boy run for every year at my co-op. Last year two of my wonderful friends were elected. Rachel and Jakob did a fantastic job. They are part of the reason I decided to run for Student Rep this year.     To start this road of politics I had to write a speech. I spent some time trying to figure out what I wanted to say. I knew what I wanted to say, but I felt like I couldn't phrase it convincingly enough. In the end I decided to state a few ideas I had and not over promise. I went with the idea that we could worry about the election and then go from there with what we wanted to do as a group.     It was a fun election and in the end I was elected the girl student rep. Luke, the boy student rep won as well and he is such a great guy to work with. I have enjoyed getting to know him and sharing ideas back and forth. Luke is so funny, smart and has fantastic ideas about what ...

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope you had a good holiday with your family because I did. We traveled over to Richfield,  WA to visit with my Dad's family. This year we didn't do a "traditional" meal. We keep it simple,  but still nice.  Now as a girl who is very traditional,  when I first learned of this I was shocked! But as the day progessed I began thinking more about traditions. What do they really mean? How do they get started?   Here is where my thoughts lead me. I started with the traditions my family has and why we have them. Some of them we just do because we enjoy them and over time it became a tradition.  Others are used as a means of keeping family memories alive. All of the reasons are really good, but why do I get thrown for a loop so much when we don't do something the exact same way we have always done it.   What I really decided was, traditions are fun, but who you are chosing and how yoyr chosing to make memories with is wha...

The One Where I Graduate

Hey, Everyone! This girl did the thing, she got her diploma. Not without the help of some dear people. My teachers are incredible through the last few years at the co-op I have worked with me and taught me so many valuable and cherished lessons.  I have been blessed with a loving and hard-working Mother who has spent countless hours preparing and teaching lessons. She has spent time discussing, researching and praying over the best direction she needed to take with my education. My parents have encouraged me through any adventure I chose to embark on. They never let me believe I couldn't achieve whatever I set out to do. They taught me that hard work would always be rewarding, to always do best, and by example, they taught me to put others first and give when I can.  My brother James is truly the best brother in the world. He is my sidekick in life and we have had countless adventures together. He has shown me to accept whatever happens and be happy at the moment. He has taug...
