What Has Kept Erika From Blogging???

After the first night of shows
I was so close to getting February's post in February. I sat down to write this so many times, but with a million papers to write for school the idea of writing more at the end of the day seems absolutely impossible. Which is depressing because I love writing. However, the homework has slowed down, relatively, I mean finals are around the corner. Anyway, I did want to update you on a few awesome things that have been happening in my life.
Artsy photo that I took in the
dressing room before the show.
First Distracted, the first CWU show I was apart of, went up in January. It went really well I had such an amazing, supportive cast, director, and crew. My amazing, wonderful, family and some family friends came to see me. It was an incredible experience and the topic of the show was one that reached a ton of people. I learned to play a character that was completely opposite of who I am and different from anyone I know which was learning experience in and of itself.
Stage Managing Short Works
Along with this amazing new show, I also was given the opportunity to be a stage manager for Short Works Festival.  I was assigned to stage manage an incredibly funny piece called "The Lonesome West" by Martin McDonough. I had an incredibly supportive director and cast. I went from not knowing what a stage manager did, to calling lights and sound it was awesome! However, it has made for a very busy quarter, thank you to my mother who never complains about getting a million text from me asking for help and who will stay up and help me edit my papers for English 102.
These beautiful gals don't live in Beck
But they are some awesome theatre friends
of mine. Here we are trying to
survive mid-terms
In addition to the chaos of taking 18 credits this quarter and being active in the theatre department, my friends and I have been keeping busy trying to hang out when we can and sharing the struggles as we figure out how to navigate college. With switching roommates, joining clubs, running campaigns and hall programs, performing amazing band concerts, theatre productions (yeah my college friends are kinda amazing) and just making sure we eat a decent meal at least once a day. Time to hang has been a little hard to find. Yet, we all know that we are here for each other if we need anything.  It has been fascinating to see a group of strangers who just happened to sign up for the same residence hall become a group of friends doing life. God is the best planner of them all.
Rio and I meeting for coffee one last
time
Speaking of roommates and friends about three weeks ago I said a sad goodbye to my roommate Rio. It was time for her to go back to Japan. I have been so blessed to know this special young woman and get to live with her. We navigated sharing small quarters together, overcame a language and culture difference, we learned about each other and shared some amazing memories. It has been so great to get to know her. Rio, I wish you the best of luck in all your endeavors
Ice-cream with Tomomi
In addition to this, about a week ago Tomomi moved in and we are starting to get to know each other. We went and got ice-cream at Winagers yesterday. Looking forward to becoming friends over the next few months.
College is offering many opportunities and one of those opportunities I never really thought of doing until it presented itself. A while back the CWU Boutique was looking for models. It's not a paid position, but I get a discount to the shop and plus I get to try on cool clothes and get experience doing something new and different. Its been really fun and exciting (sheesshh! I need some new adjectives).
My campus is beautiful
This quarter has provided new challenges and pushed me to work extremely hard. There have been many times where I am wondering what I am doing, but I keep hearing God's voice saying "I brought you here and I am not going to let you go." If God's not going to let me go then He will give me the strength to get through whatever college throws my way. These past few weeks I have been trying to learn how to completely hand my stress, plans, and desires all over to Him. My life is not my own and I want to do what he has planned for me to do. Life is a crazy big adventure and His ways are always bigger than I could ever imagine. He shows me how to think BIG! He pushes me out of my comfort zone and says "See look what you can do with me."
I wouldn't be here at CWU if it wasn't for God and His wondrous plans. He has blessed me time and time again with friends, family, and support who love me no matter if I am at my worst or if I am at my best. I don't want to take any of this for granted.
With only two weeks left in the quarter, I can't believe how much has happened, but I am going to admit that I am ready for spring break to come.

What I am Learning as a Student Rep

Student Representative? What's that? It is a great  role that one girl and one boy run for every year at my co-op. Last year two of my wonderful friends were elected. Rachel and Jakob did a fantastic job. They are part of the reason I decided to run for Student Rep this year.     To start this road of politics I had to write a speech. I spent some time trying to figure out what I wanted to say. I knew what I wanted to say, but I felt like I couldn't phrase it convincingly enough. In the end I decided to state a few ideas I had and not over promise. I went with the idea that we could worry about the election and then go from there with what we wanted to do as a group.     It was a fun election and in the end I was elected the girl student rep. Luke, the boy student rep won as well and he is such a great guy to work with. I have enjoyed getting to know him and sharing ideas back and forth. Luke is so funny, smart and has fantastic ideas about what ...

The One Where I Graduate

Hey, Everyone! This girl did the thing, she got her diploma. Not without the help of some dear people. My teachers are incredible through the last few years at the co-op I have worked with me and taught me so many valuable and cherished lessons.  I have been blessed with a loving and hard-working Mother who has spent countless hours preparing and teaching lessons. She has spent time discussing, researching and praying over the best direction she needed to take with my education. My parents have encouraged me through any adventure I chose to embark on. They never let me believe I couldn't achieve whatever I set out to do. They taught me that hard work would always be rewarding, to always do best, and by example, they taught me to put others first and give when I can.  My brother James is truly the best brother in the world. He is my sidekick in life and we have had countless adventures together. He has shown me to accept whatever happens and be happy at the moment. He has taug...

The One Where I go to Prom...

Huge weekend, everyone! I had the first of my last dance recitals and then I left immediately for Senior Prom. With my best friend since childhood. How did this homeschooled girl get so lucky as to go to a Senior Prom? Well, it starts with having an amazing guy. I have no idea what is with my face in this picture  When I was three years old we became friends with this amazing family. They had a son my age and we became close friends. We even did kindergarten together, we go camping every summer with them, we did band together and we took some senior pictures together. We keep in contact and hang out, but not as much as we used too, due to the changing seasons in each of ours lives and the busyness of being Seniors.  About a month ago, when I got back from Oklahoma. I came back from dance one night and Mom said I needed to call Brandon. I figured it had something to do with graduation and coordinating getting together or something along that line. So, I called ...
