The Whirlwinds of May

May has been an incredibly busy month. I feel like it has just begun and here we are looking at Memorial Day weekend. I have felt so many blessings this month. Once again, I am astounded by how big of a support team I have. I am blessed with several close friends who cheer me on every step of the way with meaningful messages, phone calls at just the right moment, shopping days and coming and supporting me at my performances.

May started with my Senior Dance recital. Pirouette Dance Academy performed Peter Pan and it was a huge success. I worked through some personal challenges (hurt feet, nothing serious) and I had friends at family at both shows. St. Maries was the first one and both my parents game along with my Grandmother, her friend and two very sweet friends from band and co-op. Tekoa's show went amazingly well and it was bittersweet as I danced with Pirouette for the last time. My Aunt and Uncle came over from Vancouver for the show, our close family friends from Priest River drove down, the two people I am graduating with came, along with their families, many people from the community, of course, my mom, dad and brother, my amazing grandma came to this show as well. I am sure I am missing people, but I can't thank people enough for the extra mile they went to support me. I truly feel blessed.

Along with the support from friends and family, my fellow dancers are a joy to dance with. This year especially it has been exciting to see the next group of young girls, take on new challenges, learn harder choreography and become the next group of leaders. My heart is so happy for their amazing accomplishments this year.
Of course, none of this would be possible without my instructor Heidi. She puts so much work, time and energy into these shows. She has encouraged me every step of the way on my dancing journey. As well as given me opportunities to learn and practice teaching skills. Pirouette has been a huge part of my life these past six years and I will miss it. However, I am sure I will come back and visit.
The Seniors
The following weekend, last Friday, was my senior band concert. I had a few stumbling blocks, however, it was an incredible concert. We played some group band pieces and some younger players got showcased in solos. I have been blessed to be a part of an amazing band program. My director started the band with only a few students in her house. Now Lilac City Homeschool Band has grown to three main levels beginning, intermediate and advanced. With additional groups such as Jazz, Honors, That Saxophone Thing, and Trumpet and Taps Core. We have three incredible directors and are able to gain special music experiences such as Musicfest competitions, Festival, and playing at graduations, nursing homes and more.
I will be the first to admit that I have not always been a willing student when it comes to band practice. However, I have a tremendous amount of respect for the program, a deep love of all the people involved and am blessed to have made so many close friendships through the program. It was fun to play my last concert with them and be recognized as a Senior Friday night along with my fellow graduate Claire. Getting to proudly announce that I am going to Central Washington University next year was exhilarating and terrifying making graduation feel just that more real. However, I am starting to get pretty excited for what the future holds.

Along with these huge events, we have also been preparing for graduation and attending a few smaller social engagements. We had Mother Daughter Tea at our church where we celebrated not only mother's, but handmade items, with a fashion show, a potluck, live music and we made 12 baby blankets for a women's crisis shelter. It was so special to be working together on a project that we knew would help others. Again, I am continually blessed by the women in our church and the role models that they have been to me.
If you haven't figured it out yet, blessings have been on my mind this month and when I hear that word, I immediately think of the special people in my life. So enjoy the rest of May everyone and the whirlwind that it is.

The One With All The Updates

Erika and Madame Blueberry   The last few months have been crazy busy, full of adventures and the like. It would take forever to tell you everything that has happened, but I will attempt an overview. Since April I was a stage manager to an amazing show called The Lonesome West . I learned so much from the actors I worked with and the experience to produce theatre in the back of a records shop.  Soon after the show closed I took my finals, loaded up my Cadillac (named Madame Blueberry) and left Ellensburg for the summer. I only had a few days to unload my college boxes and reload Madame Blueberry for my summer job. Camp Lutherhaven  Camp Lutherhaven! What an incredible, God arranged summer. There were days I wondered if I was up for the job, but the people I met and the experiences we shared were irreplaceable. When I was at college I made a comment to my mom that all I had to focus and worry about was me and how easy it was to only be concerned about myself...

What Has Kept Erika From Blogging???

After the first night of shows I was so close to getting February's post in February. I sat down to write this so many times, but with a million papers to write for school the idea of writing more at the end of the day seems absolutely impossible. Which is depressing because I love writing. However, the homework has slowed down, relatively, I mean finals are around the corner. Anyway, I did want to update you on a few awesome things that have been happening in my life. Artsy photo that I took in the dressing room before the show.  First Distracted, the first CWU show I was apart of, went up in January. It went really well I had such an amazing, supportive cast, director, and crew. My amazing, wonderful, family and some family friends came to see me. It was an incredible experience and the topic of the show was one that reached a ton of people. I learned to play a character that was completely opposite of who I am and different from anyone I know which was learning exp...

A Quick Update and Some New Years Encouragement

Kamola looks great in the snow Guys! I haven't done a blog post in so long. Partly due to the craziness of college life, as fall quarter was insanely busy and partly due to my laptop acting out last quarter. Anyway, now I am back and on a working computer. Happy New Year everyone! Hope the holidays were spent with loved ones and were a restful time for all. I really enjoyed being home for a few weeks. My family and I had a lovely Christmas spending time together and focusing on what really matters. For me it was a time to reflect on how blessed I am and what God is doing in my life. Fall quarter was extremely busy. I took sixteen credits and was apart of a production of The Nutcracker.   Through that experience I learned not only technical dance skills, but also that bullies can still exist, even in adults. Working with difficult people is sometimes just apart of life. Overall the good that accompanied that show out weighed the bad and I am thankful for the experience. ...
