My dad is the most incredible man I have ever met. I love that we have little traditions we do together, I love that we can have deep conversations or silly meaningless conversations. I love that he has always made being involved in my life important. I love that he, like the rest of my family is incredibly supportive.
On a typical day my dad gets up, goes to work, works all day, then either goes and runs errands for the family or comes to a rehearsal or drives us to where we need to be or picks us up from practice. Basically both of my parents work together so no pieces get dropped in our life. If pieces do get dropped we wok together to pick them up or we realize that we can live without it.
Dad and I hung Christmas lights on our house on Saturday and it makes me happy. We have been doing that together for a couple years now and I love the time we spend together. We watch football games together on the weekends, and one of my favorite things long talks in the car. He taught me how to play trombone and I have even had the honor of performing with him.
This summer dad was a patient, wise, loving driving teacher to me as I made a few minor heart attack mistakes. He still teaches me every time we climb in the car and it won't stop just because I have my license, because you can't learn everything in six months. Even now Dad has to say things like "and that was a stop sign." Then I give a sheepish grin and go "typically you stop on those." Together we get through it.
Most of all he and my mom work as a beautiful team to guide this family through life. We have built relationships that will stay strong forever. I am so blessed that when I have a problem I can go to either one of them or both and we can talk through it. Parents are truly amazing people to talk over things with.
People say that Dad's are a daughters first love and I think that is true. Back when I was younger we did Daddy/Daughter dates and we still do. This weekend we are going and seeing the Nutcracker downtown. Thank you Dad for always being there for all the hugs, all the talks, all the daddy/daughter dates and all the adventures we are going to do. I love you and I am so lucky to have you.
