Day In The Life: Winter Finals

Good Morning!
It's Snowing On The Way
To The Bistro
Upon request here is my day in the life post. This week is the week of winter finals here at CWU, so without further ado here is a day in my life finals style. Today is the first day of exams and my roommates birthday. We both had eight am finals and no one deserves to have an eight am final on their twentieth birthday, so a trip to the Bistro was a must. I woke up slightly before she did and left on a quest for coffee and donuts.
The 1891 Bistro is CWU's coffee shop and the hangout spot on campus. Students come here to get their caffeine fix, catch up homework, meet with friends or occasionally sleep. The Bistro also hosts really cool events for students like Friendsgiving, Open Mic night and VR Thursdays.  This year they made the Bistro open 24/7 with a laptop kiosk and printing which is amazing. My dorm is right next to the Bistro and it is perfect to grab a late night snack or like this morning a delicious pick me up breakfast before a day of exams.
Anthropology Final Let's Go
After securing two chocolate bars and two caramel macchiatos it was back to the dorm room to surprise the roommate. Having breakfast with my roommate was a really nice treat because normally we are both rushing out the door to our morning classes. However, today both of our exams were online. My exam wasn't till 8:40am, just enough time for me to squeeze in a quick shower.
My Bed is One of My Favorite
Parts of My Room
By 8:40pm it was time for my cultural anthropology exam. It was only eighteen questions and went surprisingly well. That makes three of my six classes for this quarter completed.  With the exam completed, I made my bed and finished getting ready for the day.
I had some time before my second exam of the day, my modern final. So, I decided to go and sell my textbook back at the Wildcat Shop. I was happy to get a fair price for it and by the time I was done selling it back, it was time to head to my modern final.

I arrived early at the dance studio in order to run through my choreography before presenting. This quarter we have been working on certain modern techniques and applying them in combos. Our final was to choreograph a two to four-minute combo using the skills we have learned over the quarter. Mine was choreographed to Ophelia by The Lumineers. Overall I think it went very well. I was nervous going into it because I felt like I didn't prepare enough ahead of time. However, I was the most relaxed and had the most fun presenting a dance final that I have had ever. Now we just wait for the grade.
Book and Snacks
Back in the dorm room, I decided to take a break and read for a bit. Anyone who knows me knows I am an avid reader. I have a reading list I will never finish, but that being said I am always looking for new books to read. If you have a favorite book you think I should read leave it in the comments. I am open to read all genres and promise to give it a fair shot before judgment.
I also realized that I was hungry so I grabbed some vanilla wafers....the whole box. Normal people probably would have taken a napkin or a Tupperware and put a handful or so in it to snack on. Nope this girl takes the box and grazes on it over the course of two hours while she reads.
This is My Friend Laura
and She Worked Wardrobe With Me
At four I had a debrief meeting at the theatre department. This past week Central Theatre Ensemble presented "The Transition of Doodle Pequeno." I worked for the wardrobe crew and it was a lot of fun. At the end of every show, we debrief as a cast and crew to check in see how it went and present ideas on what worked and what didn't.
Laura (pictured to the left) is one of my good friends here at Central and is a wonderful human being. We went to get dinner after the meeting with my roommate. We all wanted a real meal and decided to go to Holmes Dining for dinner. At Holmes, you go through cafeteria style and then they have tables and booths to sit at with your friends. Holmes has a Green Table option which provides vegetarian options, healthy stir-fries, black bean burgers, and salmon burgers. Pan Asian which offers fried rice, egg rolls, pot stickers, teriyaki chicken, orange chicken, pho and sticky buns. They also have a delicious breakfast station, salad bar, baked potato bar, and Holmes Comfort which is where I ate tonight. I got their pot roast, au gratin potatoes, steamed veggies, and apple sauce.
Holmes Dining
After dinner, we all went back to Kamola to study for upcoming finals. Kamola has several cozy lounges that have comfy couches and inviting fireplaces. The perfect setting to hang out with friends and get some studying in too.  We studied for a few hours, ate cake and went to bed. Honestly, it was a pretty amazing day.
College is wonderful. Of course, there are days where you wonder if it is really all worth it, but I think that it is. The people I have met here and the experiences I have been offered are amazing. This post shows a pretty typical finals weekday for me. If you are interested in any other day in the life posts (normal school day, weekend, etc) let me know. I am always looking for post ideas so if there is something you want me to write about shout it out!
Have a lovely weekend everyone and thank you for reading about what my day is like.

The One With All The Updates

Erika and Madame Blueberry   The last few months have been crazy busy, full of adventures and the like. It would take forever to tell you everything that has happened, but I will attempt an overview. Since April I was a stage manager to an amazing show called The Lonesome West . I learned so much from the actors I worked with and the experience to produce theatre in the back of a records shop.  Soon after the show closed I took my finals, loaded up my Cadillac (named Madame Blueberry) and left Ellensburg for the summer. I only had a few days to unload my college boxes and reload Madame Blueberry for my summer job. Camp Lutherhaven  Camp Lutherhaven! What an incredible, God arranged summer. There were days I wondered if I was up for the job, but the people I met and the experiences we shared were irreplaceable. When I was at college I made a comment to my mom that all I had to focus and worry about was me and how easy it was to only be concerned about myself...

What Has Kept Erika From Blogging???

After the first night of shows I was so close to getting February's post in February. I sat down to write this so many times, but with a million papers to write for school the idea of writing more at the end of the day seems absolutely impossible. Which is depressing because I love writing. However, the homework has slowed down, relatively, I mean finals are around the corner. Anyway, I did want to update you on a few awesome things that have been happening in my life. Artsy photo that I took in the dressing room before the show.  First Distracted, the first CWU show I was apart of, went up in January. It went really well I had such an amazing, supportive cast, director, and crew. My amazing, wonderful, family and some family friends came to see me. It was an incredible experience and the topic of the show was one that reached a ton of people. I learned to play a character that was completely opposite of who I am and different from anyone I know which was learning exp...

A Quick Update and Some New Years Encouragement

Kamola looks great in the snow Guys! I haven't done a blog post in so long. Partly due to the craziness of college life, as fall quarter was insanely busy and partly due to my laptop acting out last quarter. Anyway, now I am back and on a working computer. Happy New Year everyone! Hope the holidays were spent with loved ones and were a restful time for all. I really enjoyed being home for a few weeks. My family and I had a lovely Christmas spending time together and focusing on what really matters. For me it was a time to reflect on how blessed I am and what God is doing in my life. Fall quarter was extremely busy. I took sixteen credits and was apart of a production of The Nutcracker.   Through that experience I learned not only technical dance skills, but also that bullies can still exist, even in adults. Working with difficult people is sometimes just apart of life. Overall the good that accompanied that show out weighed the bad and I am thankful for the experience. ...
