The Everything and Anything Update

Hello, I hope everyone has been able to enjoy the beautiful weather we have been having lately. The campus is in bloom, the sun has been shining and it has just been stunning. I have decided it is God's personal gift to me. Every day, as I am walking to class its like all the trees and flowers in bloom, are His bouquet to me. I love it I am positive they are getting more astounding with each day!

As far as school is going we are officially over the half-way mark! Mid-terms ended on Friday for me and all I can say is sometimes your thankful you Professor drops the lowest grade.Overall spring quarter has been going pretty well. I am taking Nutrition 101 and made it my personal challenge to eat better and work out more. I did really well for about three weeks, but I am not giving up! Then I am in Math 100B which is a course I have to take before I can take the math required for my major. It's nice to know math and I still like yelling at each other, hopefully, this time I win the argument. Then I am taking Psychology 101, not a bad class I really enjoy it unless I have to explain what all the stuff means :) My last class is a theatre lab in the costume shop. This brilliant girl decided to take it during spring quarter when we are preparing for the spring musical. Yep, well some of the costumes have my blood, sweat, and tears in them. (hopefully, they wash that out before the performance LOL) In all seriousness, it has been really insightful to see a show from the costume side of things. The amount of hours the costume shop puts into making the rest of us look our best is truly remarkable and I don't envy their job.
This quarter I have been overwhelmingly blessed by visitors and hospitality. I came back to campus the week of Easter and for several reasons, it didn't make sense to go home for Easter. So, I ended up spending it here in Ellensburg, which was so much fun. I attended Mercer Creek Church's Good Friday service with my honorary family members in Ellensburg, then on Saturday, we all served at the first of four Easter services at Mercer. Sunday I attended the 8am service and then my Ellensburg family lovingly had me over for Easter dinner with them and their family. It was a new way to spend the holiday, but I truly enjoyed it and the fact of the matter is, no matter where I am, the fact my Savior died and conquered the grave for me is true in any corner of the universe.
Not too long after Easter my best friends from growing up, the Michelsen's came through Ellensburg and I was able to show them campus as well as have dinner with them. It was great to catch up and see familiar faces. Then, last Sunday some friends from my home church rolled through and we were able to get together and visit. Finally, my aunt, cousins, and grandmother came this weekend and we went swimming, played around campus enjoyed some Ellensburg sized burgers and tried not to blow away in the wind. Seeing and being loved on by all these special people has been such a blessing.
Along with these special visits from friends and family I have also been trying to have little short adventures going and doing things. Last weekend the dream adventure happened. It was the COLLEGE RODEO!!!!!  Yes, I put that in all caps because that just begins to explain my excitement for the rodeo. It was a full weekend of steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing, bull riding, bronc riding and goat tying fun. Along with some very cute 4-H kids selling burgers and coffee. As one of my friends said seeing a rodeo for the first time. "There is a lot of things you can do with horses and rope."
Now the question everyone is probably wondering if you haven't been following my facebook. "What is Erika going to do with her summer??" Well, let me tell you about a wonderful, completely God orchestrated journey. It sorta starts with one of my good friends falling in love with a summer camp and encouraging me to apply last summer. I did apply last summer, but late and I had weird scheduling issues. Needless to say, I wasn't hired. Fast forward to this fall, every time I opened facebook these ads would appear from Camp Lutherhaven and I had this prompting which I sorta ignored until Christmas break. Finally, I told my parents about and after discussing the options, I applied having no I idea what would happen. In January received an email from  Shoshone Creek Ranch asking to set up an interview, which we did and let me tell you it was the most relaxed, comfortable interview I have ever been a part of, he even prayed over me at the end! A few weeks later we did another phone interview and a few weeks after that I got a phone call saying that they didn't have a position for me, but there was possibly a spot at Lutherhaven or the mountain retreat as kitchen staff. I knew I wanted to apply for one or the other but wasn't sure which way to go. I decided to have him forward my application to the Lutherhaven staff. About a week or so after that phone call I had another interview with Lutherhaven which in my mind I completely failed. However, it was long after that I received an email offering me a job as a camp counselor. So look out Lutherhaven in only two days after finals this girl is packing her bags and headed your way! This journey of getting a summer job at camp can only be explained by God's wisdom. I just continue to pray that I will be a light for Him to my campers and be beneficial to the camp staff.
Well, that's about it for now, but just know that I am still alive, things are going well and I am trying to just enjoy every minute. Have an amazing spring everyone!

The One Where I Graduate

Hey, Everyone! This girl did the thing, she got her diploma. Not without the help of some dear people. My teachers are incredible through the last few years at the co-op I have worked with me and taught me so many valuable and cherished lessons.  I have been blessed with a loving and hard-working Mother who has spent countless hours preparing and teaching lessons. She has spent time discussing, researching and praying over the best direction she needed to take with my education. My parents have encouraged me through any adventure I chose to embark on. They never let me believe I couldn't achieve whatever I set out to do. They taught me that hard work would always be rewarding, to always do best, and by example, they taught me to put others first and give when I can.  My brother James is truly the best brother in the world. He is my sidekick in life and we have had countless adventures together. He has shown me to accept whatever happens and be happy at the moment. He has taug...

Things I Know and Do Because of My Incredible Mother!

Happy Mother's Day everyone! I hope you are doing special for your mom, whether you call her, spend the day with her, treat her with a small trinket of your affection or simply tell her how much she means to you. No matter how you chose to celebrate Mother's Day let her know she is special and you appreciate everything she has done for you.  I would give the argument that I have the best Mother in the world, but that would start a riot with many of you disagreeing with me, including my mom who would tell me she had the best mother. The truth is many of us would say we got the best Mom. In my case, of course, it's true :) My mom does so much for me big and small. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't be here writing this blog. She took on my education and has never given up on me. She loved me when I was unlovable, she has been an excellent role model every day of my life. My mom has never let me think a dream was out of reach. She has always let me become my own person. ...

Meet Riley!

Hey, so you remember all those posts I did in July? Yeah, me either....I am sorry guys. Summer has been great! Full of adventures and fun. We had our VBS, celebrated the 4th, I had my college orientation (a hopeful future post), we went camping, and enjoyed many days outside in the sunshine. Along with all these fun summer activities, there has been an addition to our family.     Everyone, meet Riley! A fun-loving, three-year-old, German Sheppard. She came to us through Spokanimal, but she is originally from LA. There, she was found on the streets and had just had puppies. We don't know what happened to the puppies but are thrilled to have her in our family. Riley loves grass absolutely loves it. She rolls around in it all the time and wants to be outside as much as she can. So far, she has loved everyone she has ever been around. The first day we got her we had our VBS team and a couple guys came over and she loved them. Last week we had twenty band kids over for a c...
