Glimpse into a Mind of a Blogger #1

Sorry, this took so long, between college stuff, (which may be a future blog post) the adventure of winter, (again another possible post) Oh yeah, and I have been doing my school work, band practice and of course my ballet classes. Anyway, here we go the first characteristics of a blogger.

I Love Coffee

This is probably evident and silly. However, it is a part of me and this is a get to know the blogger series so here it goes. Coffee is a part of living in this family. My mom says growing up everyone knew that the Helton's had a pot of coffee going. Mom started drinking coffee young and so did I.      However, it was not loved at first sight. I remember being out of a bath and I wanted my mom's coffee. I wanted to be like her and Dad. So she gave me a sip. I don't remember how it tasted, but I do know that I sprayed it out all over me and the kitchen. My poor mother had to put me back in the tub and then wash down her kitchen.
Though I think my actual first sip of coffee was when I was one in Hawaii. We were there on a family trip with my dad's side of the family. Mom had a granita and for fun, she gave me a sip of it and reportedly I drank the whole thing. Hey. I love a well-blended coffee. I remember her telling me that story when she bought me a granita after dance when I was younger.
My grandfather is also a connoisseur of coffee. It is because of my grandfather that I tried black coffee for the first time. I don't love it, but it works in a pinch. Guess I won't be a fan of cowboy coffee anytime soon.
Eclair's coffee is the main hangout for me and my coffee addiction. They make the best Java Chip Blended Mocha. No matter the weather that hits the spot. Also the perks of it being in a small town. I either know the baristas already or I know them after a couple stops. It is conveniently located in Tekoa across from the dance school and the theater. Two places I spend a lot of time.

If I am headed to Spokane, I stop at Golden Gem Mercantile which is an adorable, shop that opened up a year or so ago on Hwy 27. They make a really tasty mocha and have a happy hour in the evenings making drinks 1/2 off and double punch Wednesdays are fun.

Wake Up Call is my stop if I am in Spokane. My friends got me hooked on that when they went together and got me a points card there and kept taking me there ordering me delicious drinks. Their service is incredible if there is even a little line they are outside taking my order and getting me drink ready to go by the time I hit the window.

These are just a few of my favorite hotspots. I am constantly on the lookout for cute places to enjoy a decent cup of coffee. As for what I actually like to drink I have a system. Winter, it is a White Chocolate Mocha, however, I am a snob when it comes to this no one makes a white chocolate mocha like Starbucks out of all the ones I have tried this one is the best. Fall is a Caramel Mocha or Caramel Machiotto. Anything with caramel is the best. Whenever the weather gets warmer I enjoy iced mochas or blended drinks in a variety of flavors. Man, I get excited talking about coffee.
My daily habit of coffee is creamer and coffee one to two cups a day. My mom and I have this rule "Two cups is necessity it is the third you need to consider." Which I often cave and have a third.
Basically, I enjoy the fellowship and heritage that surrounds coffee. Tons of movies show people enjoying coffee together, it is mandatory when it comes to dessert. It smells amazing as you are beginning to wake up in the morning. It is something to share as you enjoy the company of friends. I love coffee and the world that goes with it. Here ya go the first characteristic of a blogger. Plus think of all the writers that drink coffee.

The One With All The Updates

Erika and Madame Blueberry   The last few months have been crazy busy, full of adventures and the like. It would take forever to tell you everything that has happened, but I will attempt an overview. Since April I was a stage manager to an amazing show called The Lonesome West . I learned so much from the actors I worked with and the experience to produce theatre in the back of a records shop.  Soon after the show closed I took my finals, loaded up my Cadillac (named Madame Blueberry) and left Ellensburg for the summer. I only had a few days to unload my college boxes and reload Madame Blueberry for my summer job. Camp Lutherhaven  Camp Lutherhaven! What an incredible, God arranged summer. There were days I wondered if I was up for the job, but the people I met and the experiences we shared were irreplaceable. When I was at college I made a comment to my mom that all I had to focus and worry about was me and how easy it was to only be concerned about myself...

What Has Kept Erika From Blogging???

After the first night of shows I was so close to getting February's post in February. I sat down to write this so many times, but with a million papers to write for school the idea of writing more at the end of the day seems absolutely impossible. Which is depressing because I love writing. However, the homework has slowed down, relatively, I mean finals are around the corner. Anyway, I did want to update you on a few awesome things that have been happening in my life. Artsy photo that I took in the dressing room before the show.  First Distracted, the first CWU show I was apart of, went up in January. It went really well I had such an amazing, supportive cast, director, and crew. My amazing, wonderful, family and some family friends came to see me. It was an incredible experience and the topic of the show was one that reached a ton of people. I learned to play a character that was completely opposite of who I am and different from anyone I know which was learning exp...

A Quick Update and Some New Years Encouragement

Kamola looks great in the snow Guys! I haven't done a blog post in so long. Partly due to the craziness of college life, as fall quarter was insanely busy and partly due to my laptop acting out last quarter. Anyway, now I am back and on a working computer. Happy New Year everyone! Hope the holidays were spent with loved ones and were a restful time for all. I really enjoyed being home for a few weeks. My family and I had a lovely Christmas spending time together and focusing on what really matters. For me it was a time to reflect on how blessed I am and what God is doing in my life. Fall quarter was extremely busy. I took sixteen credits and was apart of a production of The Nutcracker.   Through that experience I learned not only technical dance skills, but also that bullies can still exist, even in adults. Working with difficult people is sometimes just apart of life. Overall the good that accompanied that show out weighed the bad and I am thankful for the experience. ...
