Signs You Might Be Entering Adulthood

The last month or so my head has been spinning with exciting life experiences, fun adventures and just plain mundane tasks. My first bit of advice for you on this post is no matter what age you are and people tell you not to try and grow up to fast. Do it! Adulthood comes hurling at you like a bullet. It is way better to just take it one step at a time. Remind me of this periodically when I want to charge ahead into life :)
1st Sign Adulthood is Near ~  "You Get Your Driver's License"
Getting my driver's license was one of the more challenging, yet most satisfying things I have done in a while. I love my new freedom to go where I need to without having to mess up my parents schedule. But wait...... this right of passage can be a trap and a sure sign you are headed to adulthood. When you have a vehicle you can now drive it will want one very important thing. Gas. and gas takes money, money requires a job, a job requires you to get to work, getting to work takes gas, gas takes money and now we are back to square one.

2nd Sign Adulthood is Near ~ "Your Employed"
Acquiring a job was also a very satisfying task. There was the panic of it is April and my summer job isn't lined up, followed by the mere freak out of having to write a resume, not to be outdone by actually having to go to the interview and then of course it is all worth it for the joy when you secure your position, but don't celebrate yet it will be dashed by the fear of your first day of work. Jobs come with co-workers, bosses, the people you encounter through your job and learning to do your job. Though I have been blessed with a lovely work environment, this is not always the case. This new job will without a doubt require you to be more responsible.

Being responsible leads to saving for college, saving for college leads to caring about senior year, senior year leads to needing SAT scores, needing SAT scores requires a whole other list.  Caring about senior year means planning classes, extra curricular activities and etc. Doing well senior year means graduating, Graduating means college acceptance, College acceptance leads to needing to keep a job that summer, We have been over what a job entails, Money from your job leads to going to college, college means a degree, which means another job, along with marriage and house payments, then you start it all over again with your children.  Moral of the story getting a driver's license is a trap. They lure you in with hyping you up your entire life of this is what you want then WHAMO!

A Quick Update and Some New Years Encouragement

Kamola looks great in the snow Guys! I haven't done a blog post in so long. Partly due to the craziness of college life, as fall quarter was insanely busy and partly due to my laptop acting out last quarter. Anyway, now I am back and on a working computer. Happy New Year everyone! Hope the holidays were spent with loved ones and were a restful time for all. I really enjoyed being home for a few weeks. My family and I had a lovely Christmas spending time together and focusing on what really matters. For me it was a time to reflect on how blessed I am and what God is doing in my life. Fall quarter was extremely busy. I took sixteen credits and was apart of a production of The Nutcracker.   Through that experience I learned not only technical dance skills, but also that bullies can still exist, even in adults. Working with difficult people is sometimes just apart of life. Overall the good that accompanied that show out weighed the bad and I am thankful for the experience. ...

The One With All The Updates

Erika and Madame Blueberry   The last few months have been crazy busy, full of adventures and the like. It would take forever to tell you everything that has happened, but I will attempt an overview. Since April I was a stage manager to an amazing show called The Lonesome West . I learned so much from the actors I worked with and the experience to produce theatre in the back of a records shop.  Soon after the show closed I took my finals, loaded up my Cadillac (named Madame Blueberry) and left Ellensburg for the summer. I only had a few days to unload my college boxes and reload Madame Blueberry for my summer job. Camp Lutherhaven  Camp Lutherhaven! What an incredible, God arranged summer. There were days I wondered if I was up for the job, but the people I met and the experiences we shared were irreplaceable. When I was at college I made a comment to my mom that all I had to focus and worry about was me and how easy it was to only be concerned about myself...

Build Up One Another

Let me start by saying this blog post was not in anyway shape or form inspired by current events or the news. However, it can be applied to the way society often acts. This blog post was inspired by a personal experience that lead to some self-reflection and opened up some wonderful conversations with friends.  Proverbs 15:4   “Gentle words bring life and health; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.”  Words can be so destructive. One side comment, one gossip conversation, one social media post, even one look can hurt someone. The action may take a few seconds or it could be longer, either way, the pain is still there.   So why do we find a need to bring other people down? Why as a sibling did we intentionally say something to hurt our brother or sister? Why do we find ourselves talking negatively about someone? What does any of that accomplish? Does it make us feel better about ourselves? Maybe in the moment, we stop thinking about our own insecurities a...
